Longhope Lifeboats
Past and Present
1. HRH The Princess Royal officially opened the Longhope Lifeboat Museum on May 28th 2002. The museum houses the lifeboat Thomas McGunn which saw service in Longhope between 1933 and 1962. She was launched 101 times and rescued 308 lives.
2 On 8th June 2002 the 'Old Man of Hoy' was the centrepiece of an exercise involving the Cairngorm Mountain rescue Team, the Hoy Auxiliary Coastguard and the Longhope Lifeboat. The mock exercise included the stretchering of a cusualty down the 'Old Man' to the Lifeboat.
